Launching Another Scientific and Technical Council by EFKO

The first meeting of another fourth EFKO Scientific and Technical Council was held in Moscow. It is engaged in innovative energy.

The Institute of Scientific and Technical Councils (STC) at EFKO has been operational since 2019. Each STC has its specialization and involves the top-ranked field-specific scientists of Russia.

STC participants do research related to EFKO's scientific interests, contribute to evaluating and finalizing projects under Biruch Innovation Center, and act as experts in making decisions on new areas of scientific research.

Meetings of the Scientific and Technical Councils are a platform for public discussion of the work findings and refining the priorities of STC participants.

"Contemporary fuel elements are the most important components for eco-friendly transport," – Rostislav Kovalevsky, Innovation Director, explains EFKO's interest in green energy. – This direction targets several modern challenges at once. At the moment, we are actively working with lithium-ion batteries – we are exploring ways to increase their power. Also, together with the scientific community, we conduct research on hybrid systems and solid oxide fuel cells.

Such R&D product today provides import substitution of components for the transport of the future, and in the coming years, as technologies scale up, it will be able to contribute to environmental preservation and sustainable development."

The new STC involves the top-ranked scientists in the industry. The Council engages Valentin Ananikov, the head of the laboratory of N.D. Zelinsky Institute of Organic Chemistry under the Russian Academy of Sciences and a Professor at M.V. Lomonosov Moscow State University, Sergey Istomin, Associate Professor of the Faculty of Chemistry of the Moscow State University and the National Research University Higher School of Economics, and Anton Maksimov, Director of the IA.V.Topchiev Institute of Petrochemical Synthesis under the Russian Academy of Sciences.

The Scientific and Technical Council is headed by Evgeny Antipov, a Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and Head of the Department of Electrochemistry of the Faculty of Chemistry of the Moscow State University.

Rostislav Kovalevsky, EFKO Innovation Director
"One of the features of dealing with innovations is lower predictive accuracy compared to traditional areas of research and business and high risks regarding both the quality of project implementation and the very choice of directions and objectives setting. The only way to minimize the probability of errors is to match the points of view of a group of people who are maximally immersed in the subject – the expertise bearers.

Scientific and technical councils are groups of EFKO's scientific consultants of the highest level. They also play an overcautious function in some research by Biruch Innovation Center.

The chosen operation mode provides means for involving the best forces of domestic science in the implementation of projects, and for the STC members – to combine assistance to us with their main job, teaching at leading universities in Russia and maintaining all social and professional ties."
BACKGROUND
The first three Scientific and Technical Councils at EFKO, two in Moscow and one in Novosibirsk, specialize in biotechnologies and contribute to implementing projects such as plant-based meat and milk, sweet proteins, precision fermentation, cellular nutrition, and others.

The STC for Biotechnology and Organic Chemistry and the Council for the Study of Metabolism and Safety of Innovative Products in Moscow is headed by Olga Dontsova, Doctor of Chemistry, Head of the Section of Physiochemical Biology of the Department of Biological Sciences of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Head of the Department of Structures and Functions of Ribonucleic Acids of the Research Institute of Physiochemical Biology of the Moscow State University.

The Scientific and Technical Council for Biotechnology and Organic Chemistry in Novosibirsk works under the guidance of Valentin Parmon, Professor and Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Chemical Sciences and Scientific Director of the Federal Research Center "Institute of Catalysis of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences".
