Experts and Celebrities Talk on Russian biotechnology 10 October 2025
EFKO at Bioprom 2025 International Expo

“EFKO is what make us who we are!” – a deep, well-trained voice greets our technologists.

Oh, this is our old friend, the headliner of the summer festival in Uzlovaya in the Tula region, sports journalist Dmitry Guberniev.

Like hundreds of guests at the Bioprom-2025 expo, he stopped by the EFKO stand.

Ice cream and new candy flavors are definitely worth trying! Moreover, with sweet-tasting protein it won’t harm even the most delicate figure.

“Delicious chocolate!” – singer Yulia Parshuta shared.

“Yummy!” – journalist and TV presenter Maria Rybakova confirmed.

Longevity has been and continues to be one of the challenges addressed by biotechnology. To what extent can we prolong human life? How to extend its period of active longevity? Food producers, the medical and beauty industries are joining forces here. All three of these areas were presented at Bioprom-2025.

During the forum’s strategy session, participants shared their views on the factors driving and the challenges confronting the growth of domestic biotechnology. Unexpectedly, one of the latter is a high level of availability of own resources.

Andrei Fursenko,
Aide to the President of the Russian Federation
“Wealth corrupts; this is one of Russia’s ills. It is true that in our country, two well-known woes: fools and roads. We seem to be coping with the roads and the fools, but our wealth creates certain challenges. No matter what happens, we’re self-sufficient. We talk a lot about the need for sovereignty, which is linked to import substitution. However, we must keep in mind the significance of technological leadership – that we should be the first to act and stand out. Today at the exhibition we saw that we have not only import substitution, but also fundamentally new developments in almost all areas.”

EFKO is developing several projects within biotechnology. Producing enzymes, essential and extensively used across various sectors such as food, feed, and industrial production, represents our contribution to the nation’s technological independence. Regarding the pursuit of technological leadership, more innovative biotechnological projects are already contributing to it. Our most renowned creation here is sweet-tasting proteins. Since 2024, this is no longer just a product in the development and testing phase, but a certified food ingredient.

Visitors in Gelendzhik had the chance to sample a new sugar-free brazzein candy flavor paired with buckwheat tea. EFKO is also premiering another cosmetics product at Bioprom – a limited-edition collection of shea butter-based cosmetics, inspired by the nature of Kamchatka.

The exhibition and presentation of new products were seamlessly enhanced by involvement in a specialized business program. EFKO’s core areas of expertise include the promotion of new food products and the microbiome.

Vladislav Romantsev,
EFKO Director for Strategic Development
“Recent studies show that the state of the microbiome impacts not only our health but also cognitive functions and mood. Therefore, the issue of personalized nutrition is about nourishing our microbiome. However, people dislike altering their eating habits and opt for tasty things. Therefore, making tasty healthy is the biggest challenge for the food industry. One example is our Hi! plant-based meat. It tastes just like meat and is also ideal for our microbiome. It contains high fiber, all essential amino acids, and a balanced mix of Omega-3 and Omega-6, along with vitamins and microelements.”

“Industry and technology for people” is the slogan of Bioprom. What new discoveries does biotech have in store for us? We’ll see next year.
