EFKO ULTRA FEED F Named Best Feed Solution 2022 17 February 2022
Results of the AGROS International Animal Husbandry, Breeding, and Feed Production Trade Fair

Animal diet may contain not only traditional but also innovative components. Just like the human diet. Haylage, silage, hay, and straw are the traditional fodder. Our great-grandparents knew about most of them. With advances in oil processing technology, oil cake — one of the primary products in the EFKO range of feeds — was added to the list. Innovative products take into account the peculiarities of animal digestion and ensure maximum performance of the feed.

Thanks to modern technologies, the animal gets all the necessary energy, and farmers boost the performance of their business. One such product — EFKO's protected fat — claimed an award at the International Trade Fair for Animal Husbandry, Breeding, and Feed Production AGROS-2022.

The protected fat-based feed additive ULTRA FEED F received high praise from experts and won in the "Best Feed Solution" category. This result confirms that the product is environmentally friendly and safe for animals and also enhances the quality of milk and reproduction of the milking herd.

The Smart Farm project is developing innovative cattle feed at EFKO. It consists of several divisions: the high-performance feed laboratory at Biryuch Innovation Center creates new feed solutions; the dairy farming laboratory conducts the whole range of analyses for livestock farms; and the high-performance feed division scales up production and sells the products.

How does ULTRA FEED F work? A lot of energy is required to ensure high milk output and herd reproduction, especially in the post-calving period. Fats play a critical role in this process.

The peculiarity of the cow digestive system is that the rumen is the first and largest stomach compartment. It is responsible for up to 70% of digestion.

However, there is a certain natural contradiction in that fats are in extremely high demand and useful in the next sections of the digestive tract, but in the rumen they impede the breakdown of proteins and fiber and slow down digestion.

Due to its high melting point, ULTRA FEED F is split and absorbed not in the rumen but in the cow's intestines instead. A balanced composition of fatty acids — palmitic, oleic, stearic, and myristic — provides the animal's body with the necessary energy and, most importantly, maintains the health and high productivity of the milking herd.

The Russian Research Institute of Animal Husbandry conducted an experiment when developing this feed additive. Scientists studied the effect of ULTRA FEED F protected fat on Holsteinized black pied cows during lactation. The experiment ran for 100 days, and a 5.2% increase in milk output every day was reported. Also, the milk contained more fat and protein content increased. Besides higher milk output, the reproductive functions of the animals also improved. According to the scientists, the cost of milk dropped 2.1%, while revenue increased as the quality of the product itself improved.

Oleg Platunov, Director of EFKO's high-performance feed division
“High-performance cows today produce 10,000 liters of milk a year. This is no longer grandma's cow that fed on hay and provided the family with milk. These are special breeds. Thanks to genetics, all their internal resources are directed toward the main goal — increasing milk output. However, anything more than 7,000 liters a year is already beyond the physical capabilities of the animal. Without a special diet, such a cow is quickly depleted and dies after the first or second calving, at most. It lacks energy above all. Because protected fats are absorbed in the intestines and not the rumen, they help preserve the cow's health.”
FOR REFERENCE
ULTRA FEED F protected fat debuted on the feed additive market in 2019. The AGROS 2022 award is the second in the product's portfolio. In 2021, ULTRA FEED F received the Grand Prix in the "Innovations in the Feed Industry" competition at the "MVC: Cereals – Mixed Feed – Veterinary" Trade Fair in the "Mixed Feed Production Components" category.
