EFKO entered the protected protein market in the spring of 2022. This high-performance additive takes into account the peculiarities of the cow's digestive system, boosts milk output and improves milk quality.

For balanced protein metabolism of highly productive cows, most of the proteins – about 60%–70% – must reach the last, fourth, compartment of the stomach – the abomasum. Here, the proteins are broken down into amino acids, needed to sustain milk production, and then absorbed in the intestines.

Without such ‘protection’, an excessive amount of broken-down protein enters the first compartment of the cow's stomach – the rumen – and microflora do not have time to use all the released nitrogen, disrupting the entire metabolic chain.

The Smart Farm project develops innovative cattle feed at EFKO. It consists of several divisions. The effective feed laboratory at Biruch Innovation Centre creates new feed solutions. The dairy farming laboratory conducts the whole range of analyses for livestock farms. The effective feed division scales up production and sells the products.

Along with protected proteins, EFKO's range of feed additives includes ULTRA FEED F and EXTRA FEED protected fats as well as CALCI FEED MAX calcium salts of fatty acids.

EFKO's oil and raw material division is in charge of producing and selling feed for other areas of livestock farming. Oilseeds are processed at the company's six oil extraction plants in the Belgorod and Lipetsk regions and Krasnodar Krai as well as Kazakhstan, with a total capacity of more than 3.5 million tonnes a year. The company is one of Russia's three largest manufacturers of high-protein sunflower, soya bean and rapeseed meal.
